CSEP-CPT, Diploma of Fitness Leadership, Fitness and Lifestyle Consultant
Deanna started in the fitness industry at the age of 16 and has never looked back. Even at a young age, her energy and passion for fitness motivated and pushed others to excel while teaching group exercise classes at the local gym in her hometown – Dawson Creek, BC. After completing a Social Work Diploma at Northern Lights College and working in both social work and the fitness industry, it became clear that her calling to help people would be best served through fitness.
She left social work and enrolled into the two-year Fitness Leadership Diploma Program at the Grande Prairie Regional College. During these two years she was able to define who she was as a fitness leader by learning all the aspects of the industry. Upon graduating, Deanna was immediately hired by the Be Fit For Life Center located at Grande Prairie Regional College. Conducting fitness tests and appraisals, training the Ladies Wolves Volleyball team, teaching group exercise classes, delivering seminars to schools and corporations in the community, and assisting with the P.A.R.E test for the R.C.M.P and Calgary Police Department filled her day and challenged her to grow as a leader.
In 2003 Deanna moved to Edmonton and joined the Custom Fit team as a Fitness and Lifestyle Consultant. She enjoys the opportunity to help people from all backgrounds and ability levels to achieve their personal fitness goals and believes every program should include strength training for optimal results; building a strong body changes and empowers one’s life.
Deanna competed for 10 years as a Figure Athlete in the Alberta Bodybuilding Association and loves physical culture and bodybuilding. In 2010 and 2013 Deanna placed Top 5 at the provincial level and excelled in this sport at an amateur level. Since 2014, Deanna has shifted away from physique goals and focused on powerlifting. Although she appreciates the amount of discipline and dedication it requires to get the level of conditioning it takes to step on stage, a healthy and balanced lifestyle is her main priority. She specializes and helps her clients with female hormonal balance, eating disorders and body image counseling.
“Fitness is something you get to do, not something you have to do. Take pride in the body you were given!”
Thirteen years as a personal trainer has seen me work with a great variety of individuals from the high energy of top level athletes seeking performance improvements to corporate executives prioritizing health and wellness to drive the success of their companies. I take pride in helping those I work with to define and then achieve their success through safe and efficient programming. Having been a competitive level hockey player as well as having tried my hand competing as a bodybuilder, I’ve gone through the hard work and struggle and experienced the results possible when combined with intelligent nutrition. I know that if you have the right knowledge and guidance for your efforts that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to.
Jeff’s athletic background has made him a very passionate and inspirational personal trainer. His most prideful moments come in when a client shares their stories of success and improved quality of life from training.
In 2013, Jeff enrolled in the Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma program at NAIT. During this time Jeff took part in classes such as Sports Performance, Corrective Exercise and Life Span and Clinical Exercise. The courses have created a very well-rounded trainer that is willing and capable of taking on any client from any background and fitness level.
During this time Jeff also volunteered as a student trainer with the NAIT OOKS Men’s Soccer team. This gave Jeff additional skills to add to his repertoire as he worked along side NAIT’s Athletic therapists, granting him knowledge in injury prevention and management. In 2015, Jeff graduated the NAIT PFT program with honours.
Prior to school and personal training, Jeff was consistently involved in sport. At the age of six Jeff was playing high levels of both Hockey and Soccer. Growing up in Ardrossan, Jeff had spent hours watching his two older brothers play Hockey and had become a student of the sport. Jeff has applied this to his training of young hockey players.
Jeff now has moved on from Hockey and Soccer, and now expresses a high passion level for the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Jeff has been practicing this trade for a few years and is now on his way to competing at the amateur level as a hobby.
